Ultimately though I didn't think these were the best solutions. Very frustrating for graphics heavy games and also Rocksmith 2014! You can get around this using another sound output option (HDMI or Bluetooth for example). Namely there is a manufacturing flaw in the laptop that means as the GPU heats up and the fans kicks in, this affects the sound chip due to it's proximity to the GPU and the sound eventually fades and drops out until the temp cools down again. First of all some background: I have a MSI GT70 2pc laptop (UK) and I have an issue with the Realtek sound output via the 3.5mm jack.

Ok it's early days (only got it today) but I have to give my initial impressions about the UCA202. If you're looking for a cheap DAC then give it a try. I've never tried using it in my regular hifi, but reckon I'll have to give it a try sometime to see how it compares in a proper set up. I also like that it was very easy to set up, I don't remember having to upload any drivers etc and don't think that I've even seen it since that day as and I have it mounted with velcro underneath a desk behind my piano and it never needs any attention. Probably not up there with the much more expensive boutique or specialist type stuff (which I have owned), but good enough for day to day use. Now it's fixed the sound quality is very good. I'd originally thought that this coloured the sound of my piano quite badly, but after a while figured that this was due to a wiring issue with the mixer which is why I've updated the review. It's okay with lower impedance headphones such as my 32 ohm Grados. The audio output can't feed my 600 Ohm Beyer Dynamic headphones very successfully (which isn't a problem as you can't really expect it to) so i feed into into a separate mains powered headphone amp. I can also connect up Bandlab which I have on the same laptop if i wish to either record or jam to drum loops etc. The inputs into the mixer are an electric stage piano, a microphone and maybe a metronome, mp3 player etc if required. I've updated this review and changed the rating from 4 to 5 stars. I have one of these to connect the output from an old Behringer mixer into my laptop for Skype piano lessons.
